Phillip Kenneth McGall invented the first micro switches in the early 1930s. He worked for the Union Electric Company and was tasked with finding a solution to the problem of switches failing due to arcing and burning. His solution was to use a small, spring-loaded lever to move a contact from one position to another. This lever would be triggered by a small amount of force, which would be enough to maintain a stable electrical contact.
